“Feed” is a collection of photographs that aludes to a visual representation of how technology has transformed and changed the art of photography. With the widespread availability of smartphones with high-quality cameras, photography has become an integral part of our daily lives and anyone can capture a moment and create a visually stunning image.
We now take more photos than ever before, and the way we capture and share those photos has been greatly influenced by social media. This has given rise to numerous photographic styles some being considered “aesthetic” which in social media circles, the term is often used to describe a cohesive and visually pleasing feed of photos that come together to create a specific mood or vibe. The images in this collection are ordered like they would appear on a smartphone’s social media feed or photo album, reflecting the way in which we curate and present our images for public consumption. Peoples albums and social media profiles tells hints about a person like their interests, values, personality or lifestyle. But sometimes it’s all completely fake, social media feeds only provide a partial picture of a person's life, and should not be relied on as the sole source of information about someone. Most of the time people curate their social media feeds to present a certain image of themselves, far beyond what is true and may not share everything that is going on in their lives.
We take numerous pictures of a moment, often selecting the one that will best fit our social media feeds. In this collection Josealberto recreates the visual appearance of how a smartphones album or social media feed looks like by arranging them into the classic grid collage and implements his own aesthetic style of photography. The only difference is that none include pictures or selfies of himself, which tend to be the ones people spend more time on. His photos center more around nature and landscape. In the end, the collection invites us to consider how photography, social media, and technology shape our visual culture and impact the way we see ourselves and others.
